# 5181 M-1851 ARMY OFFICER'S CLOAK
COAT- Pictured at
left is the 1851 US Army General's
Double Breasted Cloak Coat with “Frogs”. This style overcoat was
Regulation for all US Officers from 1851 until 1872. Cape on this coat
is closed by means of a “Loop Eschelle” and is removable. If desired,
the Cloak Coat (and Cape) is available with buttons (see lower left) in
place of frogs at a reduced rate.
Progressive rows of black silk
sleeve braid indicate the rank of the officer. The cloak coat is made from dark
blue wool and is fully lined with heavy black cotton. The edges of the
coat and cape have black mohair lace. There are two exterior slash
pockets just below the waistline. The cape is detachable and lined with
black cotton also.
