Civilian Showcase Page- Realizing how difficult it can be to design a custom civilian outfit from small color samples, we have added several images here of different customers with descriptions of their civilian clothing to give you different ideas for your outfit.

As a rule of thumb, the darker in color the clothing, the more formal the setting.  It should be kept in mind, however, that a person wearing dark clothing will be considerably warmer during the summer, as dark colors absorb the sun's rays and energy, whereas, lighter colored clothing reflects the sun's rays and heat.  The most common men's color for clothing in those days was black.  However, either shades of grey or black with grey; or brown shades were very common on civilian men.  Usually, dark blue shades were considered to be a military color and not real popular- such as olive drab today is considered a "military color".   Please click on pictures for larger view.

Mike Sheehan is shown in an outfit suitable for a Saturday evening dance.  He's wearing a #1401 Frockcoat in Charcoal, #1601 Trousers in Bankers Grey, #1602 Vest in Crimson Brocade, with the #1702 White Shirt and #1713 Black Cravat.  The crimson brocade vest adds a dash of flair to the outfit.  Also appropriate in a more subdued manner would be a vest that matched the trousers in color.

Carl Moss is shown in a very comfortable cotton outfit for summer.  The off white color of our Textured Natural Cotton fabric in the #1401 Frockcoat and #1601 Trousers are most desirable during the summer heat.  Carl's custom shirt in light rose color and custom brocade vest really help set this outfit apart!

Dave Tennies is shown in a more formal outfit with the coat and trousers in black.  Here a black #1401 Frockcoat and #1601 Trousers are complimented by the #1602 Vest in Silver and Brown Brocade.   Dave's custom necktie in scarlet really adds a flair to a dashing outfit.

Hal Dickinson is decked out in an outfit featuring a  #1401 Frockcoat in L84  blue grey with dark blue velvet accents.   Hal's dark blue wool #1601 Trousers and custom blue brocade vest, along with the black top hat and white gloves, make this a very appropriate outfit for escorting a lady to the ball.

Fred Priebe, portraying Mr. Lincoln, is shown wearing a double breasted version of the #1401 Frockcoat.  The #1602 Vest and #1601 Trousers are black also, as was Mr. Lincoln's custom.   Our #1713 Black Cravat is an exact copy of Mr. Lincoln's.

Rob Atkinson is shown in the single breasted Tailcoat outfit.  Since the #1501 Tailcoat is very formal by design, it is best to keep the color of the coat and trousers to the darker shades; such as black, charcoal or dark brown with the vest of a complimentary color.  The velvet collar looks very nice with this particular coat.   Rob is wearing our #1602 Vest in Crimson Stripe with #1601 Trousers in black wool.  The #1710 Pleated White Shirt and #1713 Black Cravat complete the outfit.

Murray Strauser is wearing our 1890's three piece suit made from the charcoal stripe material.  This style is a blending of the Civil War era Sackcoat design with the cut-away front of the Morning Frock.
