#703 US OFFICER'S Mounted TROUSERS (Civil War era 1858 to 1871)

The 1858 Regulations called for Dark Blue trousers for officers of all branches of service to have a 1/8" welt (piping) in the out seam in the appropriate branch color- as seen at upper left. Generals and Staff Officers were to wear trousers plain without any piping. The 1862 Uniform Regulations changed the trouser color to Sky Blue for line officers and continued the color piping. Scroll to see the 1862 Regulation mounted style Trousers.

Generals and their staff officers were to continue wearing Dark Blue trousers. However, Regulations called for Staff Officer's trousers to have a 1/8" gold metallic piping. General's trousers were to continue to be plain without any piping.
