Our #1001 CS GENERAL’S FROCKCOAT is
double
breasted and made from our quality wool or wooljean fabrics, see the wool sample page
for available fabrics. The
Regulation trim color for Confederate General's was Buff. From
original coats observed at various museums today, the color
"buff" varied greatly from an off-white (which we use) to an
almost tan color. The basic coat
includes solid faced collar, cuffs, rear pocket flaps and front edge piping
with four rows of our Deluxe
Gold Soutache braid on the sleeves, and our CS General’s standard collar insignia
badge. Click Trim Options
to see different branch trim options available.
The coat body is lined with
black cotton and the sleeve linings are natural cotton.
An inside left breast pocket and hidden pockets in the folds of the
skirt with flaps are included. Sleeves
are tube style (non-functional) with 3 small buttons per cuff for
decoration.
When
the Confederate Army Uniform Regulations were adopted in 1861, only the rank of
Brigadier General was listed and the button arrangement was 16 buttons placed in four
sets of two- as seen in the top photo at left. A year later, when the
additional ranks of Major Gen'l, Lieut
Gen'l and full General were added, no changes were made to the Regulation
button pattern or the collar insignia to reflect the new ranks. Consequently, some Generals
above the rank of Brigadier ordered uniforms with a 3 by 3 button pattern as used
by the "Old Army"- (the US Army) to reflect the higher rank.
Click in the "Button Pattern" choice box below to specify button
arrangement at time of order.
