PETER TAIT CONTRACT JACKET- (Probable issue period Summer of 1864 through end of War).Although similar to the Richmond Depot style and most probably issued from that Depot, Tait Jackets were imported from the firm of Peter Tait in Limerick, Ireland and have some unique features. The jackets all feature a five piece body, 2 piece sleeves and 8 button (Script “I”) front. They are lined with linen and have an inside left breast pocket. Each Tait jacket listed below has the specific collar shape that was used on that particular style jacket. The square front and distinctive double right side stitching and natural colored buttonhole thread are featured. Five different versions of Tait jackets have been found to date indicating they may have been whatever Tait "had in stock" when the order came in from the Confederacy.
All our reproduction Tait jackets are exclusively available in our Tait Dark Blue Grey wool (color #176) as seen in original Tait jackets. Rank Stripes can be added to the sleeves of any jacket during manufacture. Place the order for stripes thru the US Army chevrons page and click "sew on stripes" on the rank trim box below.
